Always counter for plus or minus 5% of wastage for all materials including roofing nails and felt paper while attempting reroofing.

Popular Re-Roofing Materials

DIY Reroofing a houseThere are various options to choose when it comes to reroofing your house. Depending on your budget and individual preference, one can choose from a number of roofing options as discussed below.

Concrete Tiles: Concrete tiles are arguably one of the most commonly used roofing materials in the world. Concrete tiles were not always the preferred roofing material choice as they tend to loose tensile strength with time. Also another big disadvantage with concrete tiles was the apparent loss of color over the years.

Technological improvement in concerted tile manufacturing processes have made sure that concrete tiles have bounced back to become a popular option for people reroofing their homes. With a definite cost advantage over other tiles and wide choice of colors and increased tensile strength, concrete tiles can be a part of your home reroofing plans.

Terracotta Tiles: Terracotta tiles offer a great reroofing solution for people looking for long life roofing solutions. Terracotta tiles come in a wide range of colors making them quite popular with a lot of people. On the downside however, Terracotta tiles are slightly more expensive compared to traditional concrete tiles. Terracotta tiles also tend to be slightly heavier than other reroofing options.

Metal Roofing: Metal roofing is the flavor of the season and a commonly used roofing choice used globally these days. The ease of installation and design flexibility in metal roofing makes it a more lucrative roofing option compared to traditional tiles. In case the slope or the pitch of the roof is less than fifteen degrees, metal roofing is considered to be the best roofing solution.

The biggest disadvantage of metal roofing is the possibility or corrosion over time event though the metal roofing material comes pre-quoted with anti corrosive paint. Metal roofing material is more prone to weathering and industrial pollution. Metal roofs would make slightly higher noise compared to tiles in a rainy season so it depends on the personal user preference.

Shingles: Shingles made of cement fibrous material are a good option for reroofing. They are both long lasting as well as offer adequate insulation. Once considered to be a popular roofing material choice, Shingles are slowly fading away from public memory as people are moving towards colored tiles and metal roofing.

Slate Roofs: Readymade slate roofs are a good roofing choice for people having high slanted roofs greater than fifteen degrees. While slate roofs offer a high standard of weatherproofing, their high costs can turn off for many potential users. Slate roofs are now becoming available in terracotta equivalents that offer a solution to the heavy costs.

Pressed Metal Tiles: If tiles are your preferred choice as a reroofing material and terracotta tiles are out of your budget, you can consider pressed metal tiles. Often used by people on a tight budget, pressed metal tiles are lightweight and more cost effective than other tiles including concrete and terracotta tiles.
