Rental options near Delhi University
As Mission Admission’ 2014 for Delhi University has commenced, several aspirants were spotted collecting the admission forms from several centres. This year, about 54,000 students are expected to apply for several courses offered by Delhi University.
And like every year, several students will migrate to the city in pursuit of better education opportunities. While few colleges provide hostel accommodation, most of the colleges in DU don’t have such an option. And with rental values going overboard in the capital city, amidst Delhi’s heat, it becomes an uphill task to look for an affordable accommodation.
Thus, to ease out things a little bit, CommonFloor presents you few areas in and around colleges where one can find a plethora of affordable rental options. Broadly, DU is divided into two – North Campus and South Campus.
North Campus
Premier colleges such as St. Stephens’s, Hindu College, Ramjas, Miranda House, Hansraj, Kirori Mal, to name a few fall under the purview of North Campus.
Thus, if you are lucky enough to secure a seat on one of these colleges, consider areas such as Kamla Nagar, Roop Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Kalyan Vihar and Mukherjee Nagar for rental accommodation. All these areas boast of a plethora of options, ranging from apartments to paying guest accommodation.
As per data with Commonfloor, on an average a 1BHK units accounts for Rs 5,000-8,000 per month, while a 2BHK units command somewhere between Rs 8,000-15,000 per month.
The rent, however, also depends on the amenities offered. Some apartments come decked with facilities such as ACs, laundry services, Wi-Fi connectivity, television, refrigerator, to name a few. However, if your pocket doesn’t allow you to rent a room, there are several PG options as well in and around north campus. The values fall in the price bracket of Rs 4,000-6,000 per month, depending upon the furnishing and facilities. Further, rentals in PG also depends on the sharing basis. There options are available with single, double and triple occupancy.
South Campus
Colleges such as Jesus and Mary, Sri Venkateswara, Lady Shri Ram, Maharaja Agrasen, Lady Irwin, Kamla Nehru, among several others forms South Campus of Delhi University. However, unlike North Campus, colleges in South Campus are scattered. Thus, if you get a seat in Jesus and Mary, Sri Venkateswara College, Ram Lal Anand, Moti Lal Nehru or Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, then consider areas such as Satya Niketan, Moti Bagh and Anand Niketen. In Satya Niketan and Moti Bagh, one may get a 1BHK unit in the range of Rs 5,000-8,000 per month, while a 2BHK apartment would command somewhere between Rs 8,000-12,000 per month. Touted as a locality for well-heeled buyers, for Anand Niketan, you may have to shell up to Rs 10,000-18,000 for a 1BHK unit.
If you are aspiring for LRS, Kamala Nehru or Lady Irwin college, then areas such as Lajpat Nagar, Green Park and Malviya Nagar should enter your house-hunt list. Here the rental values for a 1BHK unit may fall in the price bracket of Rs 6,000-10,000 per month. However, full-furnished apartment may command higher rentals.
