Residents seek DDA to change Mahipalpur land use status
Mahipalpur residents are seeking the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to change the status of their village to ‘urbanized village’. In this regard they had met the vice-chairman of the DDA on Wednesday.
Mahipalpur is a village located in between the nation’s capital Delhi and the Millennium City- Gurgaon. The Indira Gandhi International Airport is merely around 3 km from this village. The residents of Mahipalpur have been claiming that the village is 900 years old but they seem to have been living on government land all this time.
How did the issue raise?
In the recently-compiled zonal plan F14 under the Master Plan Delhi-2021, the village land has been mentioned as ‘Government Land’, whereas it is actually an existing residential settlement. When the objection was raised against the issue, it was suggested that since this is an area specific issue, it shall be dealt as per the provisions of MPD-2021.
What do the residents claim?
The residents alleged that though they have been rising objections against the land use mentioned in the master plan, right from the beginning when the map under 2021 Master Plan was being drawn. They had informed the civic authority that the land covered by Mahipalpur was marked as ‘government land’ instead of being marked as an ‘urbanized village’, but nothing has been done in this regard.
Irked by the delay happening in making the correction, the residents met the vice-chairman of the DDA requesting him to get the status of their village changed to ‘urbanized village‘.
Whose fault is it?
Earlier, the DDA officials had admitted that it was the fault of the consultant appointed by the DDA and they had also told the residents that the correction will be done soon. But the correction has not been done till now, explained Sheel Kumar, joint secretary, Gram Sabha Sewa Samiti, Mahipalpur. Mr. Kumar was one among the representatives who had met the DDA vice chairman on Wednesday. He said that the VC has directed the villagers to submit all the documents related to the case and await response. Following his advice, the residents have recently submitted all requisite documents and are waiting for the issue to be resolved soon.
