The technological advances have come up with various ways in which we can construct housing spaces around full grown trees.
- Tree houses: Tree houses are trend and demanded by people in cities for recreation, weekend getaways. These houses are mostly constructed away from busy cities and its look gives cooling effects for eyes. Earlier these types of houses are found only in theme resorts or countries such as United States, Europe etc.
- Know Vaastu and Myths: Trees are important for all living beings but due to some myth or Vaastu recommendations for home, trees were falled because they recommended that the prosperity of homeowners will go down if the tree shadow falls on the house. Today most Vaastu experts recommend trees as sign of progress and says that the vaastu experts says trees to cut because roots of big trees can damage the walls or structure of buildings.
- Tree replacement: Recently for Bangalore metro, trees on M.G road were grafted carefully and transported wholly to another place where they could be planted and grown. This can be done on your property as well without affecting the building in process.
- Root grafting: Technology has come up to a level where roots are treated with certain chemicals which does not have any side effects on the tree and at the same time, the roots are conditioned in a way that they do not grow into the foundation of the property or affect the building in any way.
- Plan around the tree: Plan your house in such a way that you can build your house around the tree. It might be a little pricy but totally worth it in the long run. Refer the image above to get a rough idea. Architects these days are obviously in tab with the kind of design changes that can be made to accommodate a tree inside a housing space.
If we rewind back to our ancestral days, there used to be trees inside housing complexes. Trees like the coconut trees are considered holy and were not cut down while building houses. The actual scientific reason behind this was that a coconut tree has its roots that go vertically into the ground and does not spread out. Thus, does not affect the foundation in any manner. Vaastu shastra is proof that our and many other cultures support growing trees inside households and does not believe in cutting down trees to erect buildings.
The recent studies conducted by NASA has come out to prove that houses that have trees indoors, even bonsai for that matter, are the houses that have the healthiest people and who have fewer respiratory problems. This gives us more than concrete reason to not fell a tree while building living spaces, especially when the urban living conditions are polluted with heavy toxins. The house atmosphere would be pure and cleared of any possible pollutants.
