Someshwara Nagar ill-famed with building collapse
Someshwara Nagar, one of the prominent areas of Jaya Nagar, Bangalore, has rolled up all the media attention due to its recent feat of building collapse. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, in this regard has taken a prompt action, issuing notice to the developers demanding answers for the fragile construction.
Incidentally, the collapse of building in Someshwara Nagar has put BBMP on high alert. Sub-standard work and the unrestricted use of spurious materials to make the building has what led to its sudden collapse.
According to property experts, it is quite likely that the collapsed building may lack occupancy certificate, approved plan or quality construction material. As a result, construction of such illegal buildings by violating the rules causes the structures to tumble. However, the nearby residents of the building has a different say. The adjacent dwellers confirm that the builder is a genuine one and has a reputation of selling flats to middle class at a nominal rate.
One of the primary reasons for the collapse of buildings in Bangalore, similar to the Someshwara Nagar one, is constructing more apartments than the sanction received from authorities. The collapsed Someshwara Nagar building got permission for two-floor apartments from the authorities, instead built seven.
Market reports further confirm that issuing of notice by BBMP directs the developers to present the building plans and land documents in court. Failing to produce the documents within time, will lead to strict action against the developers under the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act of 1976.
In certain cases, such as this, BBMP engineers are held responsible for the collapse. Negligence of an engineer to analyze the project properly and doling out the clearance for the constructing the building, stands out as one of the reasons for the collapse. The BBMP, in most cases, does not take any strict action against the builders violating such building bylaws.
The collapsed building in Someshwara Nagar is likely to experience demolition work soon and will witness construction once it gets a green signal from the BBMP officials and civil engineers.
