Tax defaulters in Noida may lose their plots
The Noida administration has been planning to cancel the allotments of plots and properties to allottees who have not paid taxes. A total of 3,696 allottees are yet to pay their taxes to the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA).
Who are the defaulters?
Several allottees pertaining to group housing, residential plots, industrial department, commercial department and institutional department have defaulted tax payments.
What action is taken by the Authority?
Surya Pratap Singh, Principal Secretary of UP infrastructure & industrial development, has told the Authority officials to issue notices to defaulters in Noida. Further, he has directed them to cancel the allotment of plots and properties to such allottees, in case they fail to repay dues before the date mentioned.
How much tax has to be paid?
An outstanding tax amount summing to around Rs 5,215 crore remains pending with the administration of industrial hub Noida.
There are some 48 defaulters pertaining to group housing from whom around Rs 2,500 crore of tax amount is pending. There are 1,117 defaulters in commercial department having an arrears of Rs 2,122.76 crore. About 2,022 defaulters are present in industries department with a due of Rs 329 crore followed by 159 defaulters in institutional department with Rs 171 crore due and 350 allottees of residential plots with a due of Rs 92 crore.
Sept-Oct 2013 records more tax collection
There has been a significant rise in the total tax amount collected by the authority during September-October 2013 compared to the tax collected in the rest of the months in this current fiscal. A total of Rs 1,780 crore tax was collected till October 2013, of which around Rs 575 crore (one third of the total tax collected) was collected in the last two months itself.
Till October 2013, in this fiscal, the industries department of the administration has collected a tax amounting to Rs 107 crore, while only Rs 48 crore was collected during the same period last year. The group housing department has collected Rs 1,107 crore till October of this fiscal, against Rs 1,036 crore collected during same period, last fiscal.
Entrepreneurs exhibit investment interest
The Principal Secretary had recently held an interactive session with industrialists and entrepreneurs. Some of them have shown interest to make investments in UP, which include logistics service provider Hind Terminals, food processing major Cafe Buddy’s, Overseas Infrastructure Alliance (OIA) – a project development and management company, Applied Materials – an American corporation that manufactures innovative equipment, services and software, etc.
