It can be created by planting various herbs in pots and containers. A herb garden is a good option for people living in apartments as it requires less space and the ease with which many of them thrive and romp away.
As herbs are usually compact, they can be grown easily on balconies, window sills and doorsteps.

There exists a large variety of herbs.The best way for choosing herbs is by making a list of herbs you will most likely use. The choice becomes easy once you are clear regarding your needs. It is preferable to plant herbs which you use for flavoring your food or which can be used as decoration and have good fragrance. Based on your requirements, you can choose any of the following herbs:

Culinary Herbs: Culinary herbs are the most useful herbs, as they are used in cooking. They are used for flavoring and garnishing food. These herbs are the best choice for a kitchen garden. The space in your kitchen can be effectively utilized by planting these herbs. They include parsley, sage, mint, basil, thyme, rosemary, chives, oregano, cilantro.

Ornamental Herbs: Ornamental herbs are mostly used for decoration as they have brightly and beautifully coloured flowers, leaves and shrubs. They include varied thymes, lavender, mint and chives.

Aromatic Herbs: Aromatic herbs have a pleasant smell. Their flowers and foliage have a pleasant aroma even when dried up. Some common aromatic herbs are mint, basil, rosemary and lovage.

Herb Garden-Special attention is required during monsoonMonsoon is the best time for plants to grow. But it is a critical time for the plants in your home, because too much water may damage your potted plants.

Special attention is required during monsoon. To increase the life of your plants few tips are mentioned below:

  • Re-do soil in all plants before monsoon and manure them.
  • It is important for plants to get rain water. So put the plants out when rain is not heavy at regular intervals.
  • Don’t water plants before checking whether soil is wet or dry from inside.
  • Put the plants out when there is good sun. Keep rotating plants so that they all get sufficient sunlight and fresh air.
  • Don’t plant new seeds during rainy season.
