The train and rail service is one of the major sources of transportation for the residents of the locality. The suburb is served by the stations located at Thiruvottriyur and Wimco nagar.

Thiruvottiyur MTC Bus Depot is the chief bus stop which caters to the area. Direct buses ply to and from Chennai Beach, T Nagar, Tambaram, High Court, Avadi, etc at regular and frequent intervals from the area. Additionally, there are a few limited bus services which operate from and to various parts of Tamil Nadu.

Sri Sathya Sai Vidyalaya Metric Higher Secondary School , Vellayan Chettiyar Hr Sec School , SRDK Vivekananda Vidyalaya Junior College , Kalaimagal Vidyalaya , Our Lady’s Convent , Revoor Padmanabha Hr Sec School , Ramakrishna Polytechnic , Kumaran ITI and Madras University – Govt College of Arts & Science are the top educational Institutions within the locality.

Vadivudaiamman Temple , Srinivasa Perumal Temple , Pattinathar Thirukovil , Thiruvottiyur Ramakrishna Nagar Beach , Shanmuganar Park , Sri Muthu Krishna Swami Madam , Varadharaja Perumal Koil and Kattu Ponaimman Kovil are the other places of public interest.
