This monsoon, keep termites away from your apartment

Did you know that rain triggers most of the pests to become active? Termites not only are active during monsoon, but also come up with mud tubes all around the home. Termites are known as silent destroyers because of their ability to quickly and quietly do serious damage to your house. As the weather pattern changes, termites swarm and settle in to chew up the value of your home. You may never know until you find the wood riddled with holes.

Precautions against termites:

These pests are attracted towards warm and damp spaces in your home. Ensure that your home is damp free and do not let the pests fester in the nook and cranny of your abode. Monsoons call for a wee bit of extra care so spring clean as often as you can to ensure that the pests are kept at bay.

Termite treatment:

It is very important that one has to opt for termite treatment of their entire apartment and take precautions to keep them away. This will help you protect your property and belongings.

Avoid leakage in your apartment:

Ensure that you do not have damp areas and surfaces in your apartment. The gutters and the drains should be kept clean and away from any sort of leakage. Areas like the kitchen and the bathroom should be cleaned frequently and the external or underground pipe fittings should be well installed.

Seal the cracks in your apartment:

If there are any cracks present in the wall or other surfaces, they should be sealed with the plaster and cement mortar. This will keep the termites away from entering the building.

Destroy the termite nest:

Ensure that you destroy the termite nests underground and in the soil with anti-termite treatment.

Avoid moist sources:

As mentioned earlier, termites are attracted towards the dampness and moisture which is caused due to leakage/ blockage of sewerage pipe. Keep the any source of water away from the foundation and have a protection platform.

Avoid using many wooden products during monsoon:

The sources of termite food like the wooden cardboard, paper and other wooden products should be eliminated in and around the apartment. However, ensure that you treat all the wooden objects with anti-termite treatment. Also ensure that you close the entry point of termites.

Methods to control termites:

  • Pre-construction chemical treatment
  • Post-construction chemical treatment
  • Freezing method
  • Bait stakes treatment
  • Use of boric acid
  • Liquid termicide
  • Repellent termicide
