Tips for a Safe Summer Camp

The main motive behind the initiation of a summer camp was to pull the children towards nature and make them understand the nature. Even today the trend persists and surplus activities have been added to it.

Since a summer camp consists of various challenging activities, every child has to be informed about the do’s and don’ts while at a summer camp. Summer camp safety tips helps you and your child to know the simple steps in order to protect himself from the perils and have fun at the summer camp. Here are a few steps;

Choosing the right camp: One has to wisely choose the appropriate summer camp with the child’s consent. Sit with the child and talk to him about the camp and the activities which will be carried out. Make him aware of the productivity of each activity. Apart from informing the child, the parent also has to do in depth research about the summer camp, its reputations and consult other related people. Also various camps in India are certified; henceforth the parent has to look through the certification as well.

Parent’s prior visit: It is advisable for the parent to make a prior visit to the place where the child will be camping. The parent can have a chat with the director or the head of the camp and get to know the details for satisfaction.

Get your child vaccinated beforehand: A parent has to make sure that the child receives his vaccinations up to date. Also it is advisable to consult the child’s doctor about the vaccines required for a summer camp as the child will be exposed to various things. The parent has to keep in mind and also inform the camp head about the safety precautions to be taken during food allergies, medication allergies, insect bite allergies, behavioural disorders, bed wetting and various other health problems.

Activities: As a part of being an inquisitive parent, you need to get hold of the activity brochure beforehand. Make sure you go through the list of activities and in case if the camp authorities refuse to tell the parent about the activities, you know the latter part. Once you’re through with the activities, consult your child about his comfort regarding it. Do not force your child for performing all the activities. E.g. of your child is scared of heights let him stay away from hiking, diving and other pinnacle related activities. Also every camp has an alternative for each activity, which you can recommend it for your child.

Medical care: Every parent naturally has a second thought that the child might be hurt when away from home. A child involved in any activity tends to get hurt and get the medical attention. Perhaps to ease the concern, a parent can get accustomed to the medical processes and the equipments used at the camp. One can start by enquiring about the camp counsellors and the nearby hospital or clinic. The parent can also rely on the trained medical staff and the first aid techniques which most summer camps have.

Appropriate discipline: Children tend to grow hyper active when they are with a same group of children. A parent has to advice the child beforehand on how to behave when he interacts with others. The disciplinary procedure at home can also be applied outside. Making the camp coach aware of certain disciplinary actions of your child will help the coach tackle your child easily.

Staying hydrated: Since a summer camp involves various draining activities, you should make it a point that your child has the habit of consuming water frequently. The requirement of fluids by the human body is very necessary and hence the child shouldn’t neglect the consumption of water. The parent is responsible to coax their children to drink lots of water.

Protection luggage: A parent should pack clothes which are light weight and pastel coloured which the child is comfortable in. If the nights are cold, make sure to pack a number of warm clothes, socks, blankets and others. Make sure your child carries repellents and anti-allergy creams in case he needs them.

Contact number: It is sensible enough if the parent can get the child a cell phone in order to keep check of their child. In case if the child is not allowed to keep a cell phone, the parent has to take down the camp managements numbers and give their number as well.
