Tips to Cool Your House This Summer

The scorching heat has arrived and everyone frets on how to get rid of the heat and keep themselves cool. As the heat increases so does the cost of cooling your home. Many houses use various techniques of keeping their home cool, like an air conditioner, fans and so on. The usage of all the electrical appliances increase during this season and also cause damage to the environment. In order to help people keep their bills intact and enjoy a cool summer at their home, here are a few tips;

Usage of efficient lights: Swap the bulbs with compact fluorescents all over your home. Installing fluorescents in all the rooms will help you save an ample amount of electricity and money for buying bulbs. The usage of bulbs results in the production of excessive heat in the room as they use four times more electricity than other lights.

Natural ventilation: Most people prefer the luxurious way of cooling their homes with the usage of various electrical equipments. As mentioned earlier, these gadgets are harmful and also result in various damages. One has to make use of their windows efficiently and replace the electrical equipment with natural air at night. Various apartments in India have balconies and elaborate terraces and corridors, keeping your doors and windows open at night will result in cooling your home in a natural way. Also ventilating your rooms at night is a healthy habit. One can also install window coverings in order to prevent heat from entering indoors during the day.

Usage of energy efficient appliances: On should always make use of the energy efficient appliances in order to save a lot of electricity, money and keep your home cool. Energy efficient electrical appliance makes use of less electricity and last long. Various stores in India have many electrical appliances graded efficiency rated labels by which a person can easily purchase an eco-friendly appliance. The rating is given from 1-5, being 5 the highest energy efficient gadget.

Regulate your thermostat: Set your thermostat the highest of around 75 degrees during summers while at home and 85 when outdoors. Make use of the ceiling fans occasionally and let the cool air spread all over your room. Do not set your thermostat on a colder setting as this will not result in instant cooling and might lead to excessive and hazardous cooling and expenses. Avoid placing other heating or electrical items closer to the thermostat.

Air conditioner service: One has to regular check and replace their air conditioner in order to avoid less consumption of electricity. Change the air filters regularly and get it checked by a professional. Also replace the air conditioner filters regularly as dirty filters result in the blockage of airflow. Also ensure that the air conditioning pipes, connections and vents are sealed in order to avoid your ceiling being cooled by your air conditioner.

Cost effective cooking: avoid the usage of an oven frequently. Regular usage of an oven results in the production of excessive heat indoors and makes your air conditioner or any other cooling instrument work harder. If required one can always make use of the oven during mornings or nights when there is very less heat or even try cooking outdoors. Another important cost effective tip can be that a person can stuff his refrigerator with ample amount of food and edibles, which will avoid your fridge from warming up too fast when the door is opened.

Window coverings: One of the best ways to keep heat out of the way is to install white window shades, blinds and drapes. This will help you keep your room cool by reflecting the heat and sun rays away. It also helps air conditioners and fans to work more efficiently.

Wall care: One can paint their room with a formulated reflective paint or just colour it white in order to keep the roof and the ceilings cool during summer.

Efficient bathing: One has to avoid having long showers and waste water. Make use of cold water than heated water to save energy.Also one can install a tankless water heater to heat the water only when required.
