If you think you have just found a perfect nanny for your child, hold on!

Take your own time and perform proper background checks and be assured that the hired nanny can ease your fears and protect your child from the dangers. A nanny is not only responsible for your child’s health and safety, but their social and emotional development as well. Some important points to be considered are;

Do a background check on the nanny. In case you require her legal documents, make sure that they are updated. Request the nanny to give you at least three references (personal and professional) whom you can contact. While contacting the references, make it a point to ask about her employment period, her efforts and the reason for leaving her previous workplace. Also ask if they recommend her for you.

Asking her about her family background and the number of people is also important and if you are not contended, make a call to her relatives. Avoid being lenient and instead call all her former employees to get feedback and find out if the information given by her is true.

An application listing the location, date of birth, last five employers, their names, addresses and phone numbers should be filled in by the nanny before being employed. You can also ask her to sign a statement stating that you as an owner will do a background check on her. If the nanny is reluctant about giving her former work addresses and references, do you really want to trust her?

Hiring a private investigating agency to do a background check is not a bad idea. Although you might have to pay some amount but you will be quite contended about not leaving any stone unturned.

Remember that the nanny will be left alone with your child in your absence.

Ensure that the nanny is gentle and gets accustomed to your child’s behavior.

Proper precautions and instructions should be given to the nanny about her access to rooms and things around.
