Summer season has arrived and along with it has come warm weather and outdoor fun. Although having a green patch or a lawn has become more of a luxury in a city nowadays, those of you who are proud owner of one should make sure that it stays green and healthy throughout the seasons. With preparation and innovative design, you can create and maintain a beautiful landscape around your home.
Summer is the season to bring in natural greenery and lush landscape into your home. If you are thinking of summer decoration ideas for your home, place a beautiful garden on top of your list. Here are few tips to maintain a healthy greenery in the hot Indian summer:
1. Do not keep the grass in your lawn very short. Allow the grass to grow till desirable heights. Mow them to a minimum of 3-31/2 inches. Tall blades of grass receive more sunlight and in turn provide more nutrients for soil and roots. Taller blades will also provide shade to soils around the grass and keep the moisture in the soil.
2. During summer the landscape becomes dry due to harsh sunlight, heat and lack of water. You can adapt to the harsh weather by maintaining a dry landscape with pebbles, giving it a dry rock garden type look. If you have enough space, then you could also go for a small water body to adorn the landscape. Garden landscaping can be innovative rather than routine and stone boulders and mounds along with sculptural benches can make your garden look stunning.
3. As there will be less availability of water during summer, keep in mind using water intelligently. Make sure that the grass receive sufficient nutrients. Distribute the grass clippings on the ground after you cut the grass so as the ground receives nutrients from the clipped blades.
4. Fertilization is also an important part of maintaining a healthy lawn. Always go for organic fertilizers as they would boost nutrient quotient of the soil further. It is advisable not to go for too much of artificial fertilizers during summer as mixed with the summer heat, nitrogen components in artificial fertilizers can harm the grass.
5. Water the lawn regularly. Do the watering every morning as in that hour of the day heat is not on its peak and the grass can absorb the highest amount of water. However, measure the amount of water sprayed on to the grass to ensure that the land does not become infertile due to too much of moisture.
6. Get rid of unwanted weed in your lawn. Weeds are found out to grow faster during summer season. Pluck out the weeds before they can firmly inject their roots into the ground. To get rid of stronger weeds, you can mix dish soap with vinegar and spray it on the weeds.
