Traffic snarls at Ashram Chowk to end soon!
Ashram flyover is Delhi is one of the most busy flyover with traffic choked on all the peak hours. So PWD has taken a step to ease the traffic along the Ring Road and Ashram flyover by proposing an extension to the existing Ashram flyover. The proposal is to extend the Ashram flyover upto DND flyway which will ease the traffic flow benefitting commuters to East Delhi and Noida. There is also another proposal of an underpass connecting Mathura Road to NH-2. This will be a relief to the commuters to Faridabad and New Delhi Through Mathura Road.
A private consultant was hired for making the detailed proposal. This proposal will now be submitted to UTTIPEC (Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Centre) for approval. Once the proposal is implemented, it will also give seamless movement from RK puram or Moolchand flyover to DND flyway. The other proposal of an underpass below Ashram flyover will reduce the signal time for all the right turn commuters at Ashram chowk.
On Ring Road near Ashram, there is no right turn facility for commuters towards Maharani bagh Siddharth Extension CV Raman Nagar. It is because of the heavy traffic movement on both sides of the Ring Road and providing a right turn at that point will reduce the traffic speed and also choke the traffic all along Ring Road. So once the flyover is extended till DND flyway, the traffic towards East Delhi or Noida and traffic toward Sarai Kale Khan will be divided. Hence after the proposal gets implemented, providing a right turn will not choke the traffic all along the Ring Road. This will help the commuters towards Maharani Bagh, CV raman Nagar, Siddharth Extension etc. because they will not need to travel an extra mile and traffic for the ‘U’ turn.
Providing an underpass at the Ashram flyover will ease the commuters travelling in both the directions and also reduces the signal timing for commuters who need to take right turn from Ashram to a great extent. Due to the extended signal timing at Ashram flyover, the traffic along Mathura Road gets choked down till Outer Ring Road for hours. And because of the construction of Metro station at Ashram Flyover, the traffic congestion has increased. This together with the proposed Kalindi Kunj bypass will increase the connectivity of Faridabad and Delhi reducing the travel time to a huge extent. These two proposals will ease the traffic flow and connect many prominent areas in Delhi which are to be reached through Mathura Road like New Delhi Railway station, Nizamuddin Railway station, Connaught Place, Faridabad, Outer Ring Road, and many other major traffic attractors.
