Whitefield getting ready for the Metro rail line
Proudly known as one of the largest IT hubs of the country, Whitefield is undergoing a paradigm shift with the Metro line extending out to the area in its second phase. Although, some industries are switching over to Malur Road (Kolar), since their properties are marked out for Metro stations, a handful of others are giving away their land for the mass-transit infrastructure project.
Whitefield has been one of the fastest-growing tech hubs in Karnataka, with more than 700 industries. The area runs on two of its major roads-Old Airport Road to Varthur side and Old Madras Road to Whitefield Road, the latter witnesses a traffic gridlock in the peak hours. Furthermore, on account of the presence of a number of industries in the area, thousands of Bangaloreans commute to this location on a daily basis. A metro connectivity will be be boon for all.
Widening road is the need of the hour
For the Metro line to see the light of the day, road widening is essential. As per the Industry bodies, BBMP must widen the road in a move to cut down traffic nightmares, till the construction of metro is finished.
As per market reports, BBMP did not pay heed to the pleas of the industries to widen the road. The road widening project was stalled till the general election, however, post the elections, there isn’t much activity in the area. On this note, industry experts quote that although the government has heightened the growth of the locality with the influx of IT and tech parks, the infrastructural development of the area still needs to kick start.
Metro will push up prices
With the functioning of the Metro second phase, the residents of the east-west corridors, dwelling in CV Raman Nagar, CMH Road,Indiranagar and its adjoining areas will witness improved connectivity to central business districts, in less time. Furthermore, on account of increased demand, real estate prices in the micro-markets will also hit-off due to the Metro.
The working population of the city mainly holds on the IT/ITes sectors. Locations such as Whitefield or Outer Ring Road houses most of such IT/ITes offices. Extending the infra-project and including the IT corridors of the city, will have a duplex impact-it will make travelling to office easy, convenient and faster and along with that it will aid in de-congesting the fully blocked roads in the city.
