Yamuna expressway farmers may get additional compensation
The issues faced by farmers in Yamuna Expressway that is hampering the growth in the region seem to end soon. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has come forward to give additional compensation to the farmers.
YEIDA and developers to arrange funds
In order to settle down the matter, the UP jail minister had held a meeting recently with the Yamuna Expressway Authority officials and developers in UP Bhawan in Delhi. It has been planned that the financial burden will be shared by the officials as well as private developers.
Moving on the similar lines of Noida Authority
Earlier, when the issues related to Greater Noida West (earlier known as Noida Extension) were going on, the Greater Noida Authority had approached private developers to contribute their share as fund was required for paying 64 percent additional compensation to farmers. The decision was taken following the Allahabad high court order. As there were no sufficient funds with the Authority, it asked the developers to help in fundraising to give the farmers who were eligible for extra compensation.
At present, the Yamuna Expressway Authority too has planned to move in the footsteps of Greater Noida Authority.
Politicians hurry as elections are nearing
The UP government had earlier set up a committee under the chairmanship of cabinet minister and national spokesperson of Samajwadi Party, Rajendra Choudhary. But now, as elections are approaching, the Samajwadi Party has started pressurising the Authority for giving compensation soon.
Developers get upset
The decision taken by the state government and the YEIDA has made the developers unhappy. The developers have already been in a cash-crunch scenario owing to land disputes and agitations by farmers as well as reducing sales due to economic slowdown. However, the developers said that, they are still ready to share the burden of the authority, but in return, they do expect certain favour such as relaxation in norms from the YEIDA.
Positive signs of Yamuna expressway realty
The region along the Yamuna Expressway offers good residential housing options for home aspirants. Compared to many other regions of the national capital region (NCR), this region offers cheaper homes along with a world-class infrastructure.
The state government stepping ahead to settle the land issues of Yamuna Expressway region seem to be an added attraction to the place, as investors have started showing more interest in investing in the region. This has further boosted up the pace of development and infrastructure in this part.
Farmers protesting for over two years
From the past two years, the farmers in Yamuna expressway had been seeking additional compensation and resettlement schemes. Many times, they had protested by stopping construction works of some of the projects in this region and they had even locked up the office of Yamuna Expressway Authority.
The farmers allege that none of their demands have been met by the authorities so far, and only false assurances have been given most of the times.
