About Bokaro

Bokaro is a city in the state of Jharkhand that makes a significant contribution to the industrial sector in India. The headquarters of the Bokaro district is Bokaro Steel City, an important industrial hub in eastern India. It is a highly industrialized region and houses the largest Indian steel plant.

Bokaro Steel City is the headquarters for Dhanbad and Giridih, which form the Koylanchal range together along with Bokaro. Bokaro Steel City, Dumka and Ranchi are the headquarters for the Police IG zone, which includes the seven districts of Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Giridih, Chatra, Dhanbad, Koderma, and Bokaro.

  • The nearest commercial airport is the Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, about 120 km away. The airport offers domestic flights to many major cities within India like New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna and Goa. The Bokaro Airport is used only for private purposes by SAIL and VIPs.
  • Bokaro Steel City Railway Station is the major station located in the city, around 12 km from the city’s heart.   • The Bokaro Steel City’s Town Administration Department and Bokaro district authorities take care of the city’s civic administration currently.
  • The Chas-Bokaro Municipal Corporation used to manage the civic administration for Bokaro Steel City, Bandhgora, Chas and the village of Kamaldih until recently. Chas is considered to be the twin city of Bokaro and is a part of the urban region of the Steel City.
  • The steel city is divided into 12 sectors with each sector consisting of many sub-sections.
  • The Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) takes care of urban planning and infrastructure for the infrastructure utilities like drainage, road, water supply, parks, and other public utilities in Bokaro Steel City.
  • For administrative purposes, the Bokaro district is divided into the Chas and Bermo subdivisions. Chas has two blocks called Chandankiyari and Chas. Bermo consists of seven blocks, namely Jharidih, Kasmar, Bermo, Chandrpura, Peterwar, Nawadih, and Gomia.

The Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority - Water Supply

The Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority, Bokaro Steel City Town Administration Department and state government authorities handle water supply for Bokaro. The main sources of water for the city are the Tenughat Dam and Garga Dam. Shallow and deep bore wells and hand pumps form a systematic network of ground water supply for domestic needs.
