All you need to know about Guwahati Metro!
Guwahati is a major city in the north-east region. It is the gateway to the North Eastern part of India and a prime centre of, industrial, trade and commerce of the whole North East region. Guwahati is also a major commercial and educational hub of Assam. Many renowned institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Gauhati University, and Cotton College are situated here. Hence, due to the burgeoning population there is greater need of fastest means of transportation i.e. metro.
- Assam Government has decided to fast track the process of setting up metro rail for Guwahati.
- In order to decongest the city, metro construction will soon start in two corridors.
- Corridor 1 will have a connecting route from Airport to Narengi through Jalukbari, Bharalumukh, Fancy Bazar, Chandmari, Noonmati linking eastern and western part of the city with a total length of 32.4 km.
- Corridor 2 will connect Paltan Bazar – Khanapara through Ulubari, Bhagagarh, Ganeshguri and Dispur connecting central area with south eastern part of the city with a total length of 11.8 km.
- A feeder Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) was also proposed from Jalukbari via Lakhra to Nepali Mandir which will be extended from Lakhra to Khanapara and Lakhra to Airport via Pamohi along new VIP Road.
- The construction work for the ambitious metro rail project in Guwahati is likely to start in 2015.
- The most important locality of Guwahati is G.S.Road.The rate of land per square feet in the G.S Road for residential purposes is around Rs 2200. The same amount of land in the outskirts of Guwahati is around Rs 1500 to 1800. Similarly the square feet prices for commercial impetus is around Rs 3000, while ground floor costs around Rs 7000 per square feet.
- Hence it is estimated that with the upcoming metro there will be a good impact on realty market.
