Cine Star Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow Prateeksha is arguably one of the most famous landmarks in Mumbai city. Located in the Juhu Ville Parle Development (JVPD) scheme, Prateeksha was the first bungalow purchased by the mega star in the city of dreams. Amitabh Bachchan used to live in Prateeksha along with his parents and family but moved out to his new bungalow ‘Jalsa’ after the demise of his parents.

Located on the 10th Road, Juhu Ville Parle Development Scheme, the bungalow faces the Arabian Sea and is one of the most up-market residential colonies in Mumbai. Close proximity to Ville Parle station, Nanvati and Copper hospital, Fame Adlabs, and hospitality giants like JW Marriot and Palm Groove makes JVPD a prime destination. The real estate prices in JVPD start from Rs 30,000 per sq. ft. and price may vary depending on the size, area and location of the building.

Prateeksha has a family temple located in the bungalow premises built by his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan. The marriage ceremony of Amitabh’s son Abhishek with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was also conducted at Prateeksha. All members of the Bachchan clan including his parents, brother, their wives and children have all lived in Prateeksha at some point in time. The rooms of Amitabh Bachchan’s parents have been kept intact in the bungalow as the family has a huge emotional attachment with the bungalow. Amitabh Bachchan is often known to spend his leisure time walking around the lawns of Prateeksha. Amitabh Bachchan has often blogged about his love for the garden in Prateeksha especially the enchanting Gulmohar Tree located in the center of the garden planted as a seedling by the superstar himself. Bollywood movie “Bombay Talkies” director Anurag Kashyap’s “Murabba” was filmed at Prateeksha.

Amitabh Bachchan has a total of five bungalows all located in the Juhu area of Mumbai including Prateeksha and an ancestral home in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Apart from Prateeksha, the Bachchan family owns a bungalow ‘Janak’ acquired in 2004 which is primarily used as an office space for Amitabh Bachchan. The Bachchan Family lives in their up-market bungalow named ‘Jalsa’ while another bungalow named ‘Vatsa’ has been leased to Citibank. Recently Amitabh Bachchan bought a bungalow adjoining Jalsa spread over an area of 750 sq. yards for a sum of Rs. 50 crore. The new unnamed bungalow has a living area of over 8,000 sq. ft. allowing the superstar an option to use the smaller road for his everyday use avoiding the busy V L Mehta Road.
Jalsa, where the Bachchan family currently resides has a living area of 10,125 sq. ft. The twin-storey bungalow located in Juhu was gifted to the superstar by director Ramesh Sippy in 1982. Every Sunday, people from all walks of life wait for the superstar to come out and greet the throbbing crowds of fans and well wishers. Amitabh Bachchan’s ancestral home is Allahabad located at 17, Clive Road has now been converted into an educational trust. Amitabh’s father used to live in the house in Allahabad during his early years.

The real estate assets of Amitabh Bachchan include agricultural land in Lucknow and Barabanki district worth of Rs 3 crore, non agricultural land in Ahmedabad worth Rs 15 lakh and at Juhu Mumbai worth Rs 25 crore along with a commercial building worth Rs 20 crore in Juhu.
