BDA to refund the deposit paid by site allottees
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), which is generally chock-full with applications for site allotment, is now running on a different track as it has been receiving numerous requests for refund of lately. Allottees of BDA sites no longer wish to be a part of the project and are seeking a refund of the deposit money, paid in advance.
Confirming the anonymity, BDA officials corroborated the fact that more than 5000 applications for deposit money refund have been received by the civic body in the last three years. According to market news, the refund amount ranges between Rs 60000-Rs 3.2 lakh.
Number speak it all
More than 2800 applications for cancellation of house allotment (mainly for 1 BHK flat) have been received by BDA in 2013, out of which as many as 1400 applications were for deposit money refund. In the last two months, the civic body has received more than 80 such requests.
In the last two years, the numbers have reached alarming heights and BDA has received nearly 1500 applications seeking refunds. In 2011 only, the numbers stood at 1300. According to market sources, only 400 such applications have been refunded with their deposit money.
Reason for cancellation
People seeking cancellation for their allotment generally come up with two primary reasons- elevated cost of the house or poor quality of construction. Such sites where allottees have cancelled their allotment include Malagala in Nagarbhavi, Thippasandra and Kothnur in Anjanapura, Kanaminike on Mysore Road, Alur on Tumkur Road, Halagevaderahalli in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and J P Nagar 9th phase.
People, especially from the economically weaker section of the society, who failed to arrange the additional funds to buy BDA flats, seek for cancellation of their allotment. In addition to it, property consultants also confirm that lack of common amenities like cauvery water and electricity also played a key role in the cancellation of the allotments.
