Budget 2014: Slum development to be part of CSR

In the union budget 2014-15, the finance minister has made it public that slum redevelopment along with consumer protection and road safety awareness will be considered as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. As per the BJP’s manifesto, a low-cost housing policy will make certain housing for every family by 2020. Holding this statement true, the finance minister has declared that housing for economically weaker sections or slum development will be covered under the CSR category of ‘steps introduced for scaling down inequalities experienced by economically and socially backward groups’.
