Kengeri land recovered from encroachers
Encroachment of land has turned out to be one of the rising concerns for the Bangalore land development authorities. One of the recent feats of the land encroachers came to limelight when the Bangalore Urban District administration retrieved approximately 14.10 acres of land in the survey no 14 of the Ganakal Village. It is situated along the Bangalore-Kengeri road, adjacent to JSS college. The land recovered from land sharks worth Rs 35 crore.
Rising land encroachment
The alleged land sharks encroached upon 6 acres and 17 guntas of the total pasture land of 141.33 acre in Survey No 43, and constructed a resort there. The left over land was used for plantation purpose.
According to market sources, around 34000 acres of government land have been grabbed by encroachers in and around the city, out of which only 10271 acres have been cleared. In prime areas, Bangalore realtors have infringed upon 2580 acres of government land that valued Rs 5000 crore. In as many as 382 cases, around 1127 individuals have produced fake documents and grabbed land worth crores.
In addition to it, out of 1127 individuals, only 258 of them have their names recorded at the Bangalore rural development office. In a move to cancel the khatas, the government has taken initiative to computerize the transaction details.
Special cell
According to government officials, a special department has been formed to cope up with such issues cropping up then and now and retrieve all the encroached land from the sharks.
The special cell was formed after the Karnataka Land Grabbing Bill came into effect. The bill was passed in 2007 by both the houses of the State legislature, however it was returned by the Centre with the suggestion to broaden the horizons of legislation by including lands that belong to Wakf boards.
