Must have environment friendly furniture and floor finishes!
This season, Commonfloor celebrates the vintage effect simply because the magic of the old never ceases to amaze and captivate us. Our resident expert, Aditi Gupta says, ” You cannot escape the spell cast by the vintage and classic pieces – be it a concept or a beautiful style – antiques, distressed wood and age old style of building are back with a bang.”
Commonfloor brings you ideas that you can incorporate to make your house eco-friendly.
Linseed oil for your wood:
Apart from just providing a good health and beauty, linseed oil can be used for your furniture. Linseed oil is extracted from the flaxseed. The oil gives your furniture a fresh look but takes quite a lot of time to dry. One of the most eco-friendly version of linseed oil is polymerized which is a processed version and is in a solid form. The oil seeps through the pores of your furniture and makes them shiny and appealing. The finish is a satin patina rather than glossy which makes it look natural.
Natural oils for your furniture:
They are often combined with an array of natural ingredients to give the object a healthy look. These oils when applied make your furniture scratch resistant and durable. Linseed oil combined with castor oil is one of the best combinations. Natural oils can also be used as sealers or primers for wood or cork.
Resin for your furniture:
This is very natural and resilient and is apt for floors made out of every wood. This includes wood, stone, brick and even cork. Resin gives a durable and glossy finish when used with a primer. One can also get finishes with different hues ranging from clear to light amber based in the type of resin used. Unless the surface is too porous, one or two coats will be sufficient.
Wax for your furniture:
Avoid using commercial waxes which have chemicals in them.
Use products which have a blend of beeswax and plant wax as natural substances are always green and renewable. Also they are easy to apply and dry fast along with working well on any wooden surface be it an antique furniture piece or a floor.
