PCMC to start work on revised development plan
With the existing Development Plan for the city of Pimpri Chinchwad getting lapsed in the next two years, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will prepare a revised DP for the city.
In 1997, a separate Development Plan was approved for some of the areas that where transferred by the state government. With the terms of the plan expiring in a couple of years, PCMC would prepare a revised DP, especially for these areas.
The Corporation would give a notice of 60 days to the citizens to obtain objections, feedback and suggestions. After the same is obtained, a draft development plan would be prepared, which would be open for further suggestions. The draft would then be submitted to the state government for review and approval.
After the publication of its intention, the civic authority would be allotted a time-period of three years, in order to complete the development plan. The Director of PCMC Town Planning informed that the administration would seek approval from the general body for the appointment of a private organization that would help the authority prepare the DP. The organization would be expected to complete a number of tasks like preparing the existing land use map, conducting surveys of old city limits and other similar works. She also said that a time period of about 4-5 years is required for preparing a revised draft of the DP.
The revised DP would concentrate on main localities like Pimpri, Bhosari, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Akurdi and other villages. Since the DP for the rest of 18 villages that were later merged with PCMC was approved in 2009, there is no requirement for preparing a new DP for those areas.
Stages and Goals of Revised Development Plan for PCMC
Preparation of the new Development Plan would include a number of stages like survey, analysis, findings, preparation of base map and existing land use, identification of problems and finally framing up the proposals into a Draft Development Plan.
The new Development Plan, revised by the Planning Authority as per the provisions laid down in M.R.& T.P. Act, 1966, would ensure proper & optimum utilization of land. It would provide opportunities for efficient transportation facilities. Public utilities and provisions of civic and social amenities would be described elaborately, along with other services that are expected to improve the living condition & socio- economic status of the citizens.
The new development plan would be prepared, considering the projected population of next 10 years, and the sites would be designated accordingly. All the sites opted for development would follow the planning norms. Zoning of different regions would be planned and earmarked for the projected population of next two decades.
