Tamil Nadu Extends Registration Deadline Till 18th September 2020
Once again Tamil Nadu has extended the registration of the tenancy Agreement till September 2010.
Inaugurating the program for revenue divisional officers of nine districts in Trichy Region, District Revenue Officer (DRO) T Shanthi said that the time for registration of the Tenancy Agreement has been extended and citizens are hereby directed to register their Tenancy Agreement on or before 18th September 2020 in compliance with the New Tenancy Act, Tamil Nadu.
Apart from Trichy, the other 8-districts in Trichy region are Namakkal, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam.
Earlier, the State government had fixed the last date for registration of tenancy Agreement till 22 September 2019.
To appraise, the Act which came into force in February 2019 mandates the registration of rental and lease agreements across the State. The Act has replaced the Tamil Nadu Buildings (Lease and Rent Control) Act, 1960, also popularly known as the Rent Control Act.
Unlike the old Act which made compulsory registration of the Tenancy Agreement, exceeding 11 months, the new act insists on registering all tenancy agreements with the rent authority, Landlord or tenants or property manager can apply for the registration of the tenancy agreement registered in the sub-registrar office of the registration department should be registered under Tamil Nadu Regulation of Rights and Responsibilities of Landlords and Tenants (TNRRRLT) Act.
There is no charge for registration which will be provided Tenancy Registration Number. In case of, expiry or cancellation of the Tenancy Agreement, talk to the rent authority within 15 days through the precise forms.
TNRRRLT also constituted rent courts in 38 places across the state to hear the disputes over the tenancy agreement between the tenants and the landlords.
