Tips to Persist a Power Cut

Since the arrival of summer, the increase of power cuts is on a swing. It is a common sight when that when you’re doing something important you’re hindered by a power cut. As a result you are unable to move around or continue with your chores. It is rare that we all are well equipped with all the required amenities required while at the time of a power cut.

  • There are various instances where there is a blackout of a larger area with a power cut for a longer time. Various reasons like a storm, downpour and others cause a power cut. Also summer gets along frequent power cuts due to parched resources. Well, there can be many other reasons for a power cut but our sense of duty is to be well equipped and be prepared for a power cut. Here are some tips which might come in handy;
  • The first key part of staying well equipped is to get all the emergency supplies. Do not wait for a power cut before going and buying the necessary items. It is really possible that during a power cut, not everyone is well equipped and everyone can crowd up the stores for the required necessities during a power cut. In such cases, there are chances of a shortage of the required commodities. This will lead to a chaos.’

  • You can never predict till when a power cut can last. It is advisable that you stock up your commodities to face a power cut. Things like dozens of candles, candle holders, aluminium foil, matches, lighters, battery powered heaters, flashlights with full batteries, canned food supplies, water, tools, firewood, blankets, fire extinguisher etc.
  • If your food is cooked with electricity, make sure you have a substitute cauldron or cooker which can be cooked on a charcoal grill or a camping stove.
  • It is always safe that you oil your lamps regularly and see to it that they’re working. Have a selected place or many places where you can place or mount your lamps. Keep in mind the safety of the place when you’re placing fire related objects.
  • If there is a power cut, make sure you switch off all the electrical appliances and electrical connections in order to avoid short circuits.

  • In order to avoid searching for things during emergency, it is advised that you pack an emergency bag with all the required necessities. This will save your time and energy. You will not even have an idea about how long the power cut will proceed. You can also pack a bag with items for you to keep hygienic like soap, toothbrush, soap, medicines and others.
  • It is very difficult for one to manage a power cut during winter times. You cannot let your family freeze in the cold. In such cases, you can pack a bag with extra blankets, warm cotton and woollen clothing. Different fabrics can be used during different seasons. In order to retain loss of heat, you can cover your head with double layers of cloth. Install space heaters which can shut off automatically. You can also lend electricity from your neighbour if they have by plugging through an extension cord.
  •  Ensure that you install more than one telephone line which can help you in times of emergency. Make sure that you have a notice or a paper pinned up in a selected place with emergency numbers on it. It is very important to have phone numbers of a Police department, fire department, telephone and utility companies.
