Tips to prevent scratches on hardwood flooring
Have you noticed that your hardwood flooring has too many scratches and cracks all over due to the weight and movement of furniture? Hardwood floors have scratches on them due to the accumulated abuse of sand, dirt and salt on shoes or dropping heavy and sharp objects on their base.
Here are a few tips to prevent scratches on hardwood flooring;
Rugs and carpets:
This is one of the best ways to protect the hardwood flooring in your apartment. You can place rugs and carpets on the floor which protects the floor from scratches.
Avoid heavy furniture from moving frequently:
Do not let your heavy furniture to move frequently. Use a cut out of a construction paper, felt pads, a cork, rubber pads, velcro or rubber chair legs in order to prevent the furniture from moving frequently.
For movable furniture:
In case you have movable furniture at your home, install wheels on their legs. Perhaps, having wheels and rollers on your furniture legs can cause additional scratches if there is dirt and grime under it. Apart from the wheels you can also have glider pads attached to them. The technique of sanding and oiling can also be tried on the furniture legs.
While moving heavy furniture:
When you move heavy furniture on the hard wooden floor, you can place a folded cotton towel under the legs. Follow the same with all the furniture legs.
Repairing scratches:
Use scratch removing sprays, oils, finishes, wood patching, wood fillers, repairing chemicals and carpets to hide the scratches.
Trim your pet’s nails frequently:
Pets tend to scratch on furniture and other wooden materials and hence keep your pets’ nails trimmed.
Take off your shoes:
Wearing shoes on hard wood flooring has a greater impact on it. One can maintain their hardwood flooring scratch free for a long time by not using shoes on the floor.
Entry/door mats:
One of the worst enemies of wooden flooring is water and salt. These materials tend to wear down the wood faster and in order to avoid this, you can place door mats at the entrance.
Keep it clean and dirt free:
One of the best ideas to protect your wooden flooring is to keep your house clean. Follow a regular vacuum cleaning every week.
