Tips to take care of your wooden furniture
Do you have hoards of furniture in your apartment which is not taken care of since years? Smooth wooden furniture or varnished wood is the ideal wooden surface which every furniture should have. However, one needs to take care of it in various ways;
Avoid exposing your wooden furniture to liquids:
Ensure that you keep your wooden furniture away from water and other liquids like alcohol, food and chemicals. The settling of water and other liquid solvents on the wood will seep through the wood pores causing it to stain and removal of the varnish coating.
Keep the varnished wood away from dust and dirt:
Ensure that you keep your wooden furniture away from dirt and grime by cleaning it regularly with a vacuum cleaner and an appropriate brush. You can also use a soft, dry and linen free cloth to clean the dust and stains. Teak oil can be used for cleaning wooden furniture with light varnish.
Cleaning of wood:
In case your furniture is heavily soiled, you can make use of a damp soft cloth dipped in the mixture of mild soap and warm water. Ensure that you wipe the surface immediately once it is bee cleaned with the soap solution to avoid the wood from absorbing moisture.
Furniture with sticky solutions:
If you have furniture with sticky solutions or are lightly soiled, you can clean the wood surface by using a damp cloth and instantly rub it with a dry cloth. Ensure that you test before hand while applying the solution to the wooden surface.
Varnished wood:
Furniture with varnished wood should be waxed and polished regularly to retain the lustre. Doing this will also prevent the wax build-up and protects the surface from moisture and dust. If you have to remove the wax build up make use of a dampened cloth dipped in mineral spirits or synthetic turpentine.
