Kukatpally is situated on the north-western part of the city of Hyderabad, in the Ranga Reddy district. The locality of Hafeezpet lies to the west, and Kothaguda, Hitech City and Madhapur to the south of Kukatpally.

The major mode of public transportation is by bus. There are a number of APSRTC run buses that commute in and around Kukatpally. Other than these, there are many private buses as well that commute in this area. The main bus stops are the Kukatpally bus stop and the KPHB bus stop.

There is a severe shortage of water supply in this locality, mainly because the two main reservoirs of water – Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar have dried up. As a result localities in Hyderabad get water supply for only 3 days a week.

Kukatpally is undergoing some major developmental changes. Funds of over Rs 1,500 crore have been allocated for the development of this locality as an even bigger residential hub. Better electricity and water supply are on the cards for Kukatpally, as a 220 KV substation and a new water supply pipeline are going to be built. Most other localities in Hyderabad suffer from severe water shortage and power fluctuations. So the better civic amenities in Kukatpally will draw in more and more investors and home buyers.
