Bedroom Decor: On a budget
Tips to decorate your bedroom in an economical way
Sometimes, the decorating drags on forever. And just when you decide to hit a full stop, a sudden inspiration occurs and you feel the urge to give the room a tiny makeover…but, then the ominous word ‘budget’ rears its ugly head. At CommonFloor, we got together and decided to bring in delightful ideas to the table – incredibly inexpensive do-it-yourself updates that you can make and the best part of it is…you can use what you already have in your bedroom!
Stunning makeover :
Get a new duvet or comforter- The designs on offer are plenty – from graphic to brocade in vibrant and pastel shades, it’s amazing what a simply throw can do to your room.
We also loved the idea of replacing old staid drawer handles and pulls with decorative ones. This low-effort trick adds personality and style to nondescript or inexpensive furniture.
We absolutely fell in love with this idea :
Simple and elegantly chic. An old saree or a ‘dupatta’ can be worked as a headboard and the bright colors of the fabric will lend a grande touch to the bedroom walls. Pop it up with bright colored cushions and a faux silk bedspread to complete the look.
The easiest way to bring in the wow factor to your bedroom is to paint an accent wall. It’s a great way to bring colour into a room, and it can also add depth to your bedroom. Dark greys, stunning pinks, muted gold…all of it lend grandeur to your space.
An all-time favourite with us :
Crisp white sheets and colourful throw pillows. And voila – it’s an instant makeover that we absolutely drool over! Deliciously stunning!
Think out of the box:
A simple bedroom can be magically transformed into a conversation starter by adding a few dramatic elements. We loved the idea of taking an age old trunk – working on a layer of paint and propping it up on a stool. Add a simple vase with a single flower and a night lamp and you’ve a statement piece in your bedroom.
The flea markets are a treasure trove for unique finds. An interesting vase, a vintage box, a quaint cushion or a simply out of the world chair – which needs a single coat of paint to give it a fresh look – work your way into these markets to unearth the most gorgeous finds. We loved the idea of creating a decorative book shelf. Wrap your books in beautiful coloured or patterned paper to create punchy accents around the room.
Creating a romantic corner with white flowers, dotted with orchids and tall chunky candles paints a beautiful picture.
Work on the lighting. Sensual and warm, keep bedroom lighting subdued just enough to cast a warm glow.
