What not to do when you are decorating your home: Color Special

Home decorating has been in rage since a couple of years among most of the home makers and home buyers. They think of innumerable ideas to make their home look unique and beautiful, but seldom do they know about the things which shouldn’t be done while decorating.

Here’s a list of few home decorating no no’s;

Avoid letting someone else do up your home:

Your home makeover is entirely your responsibility and your own personal space. You shouldn’t let others decide for your home decoration and take their suggestions. Decorating is all about your choice and your selection wherein you feel comfortable at the end of the entire decoration.

Avoid painting initially:

It is always better to paint the room after you have decided on the type of upholstery, carpet, fabric and furniture. Once you have decided on all these, you can choose any colour under the sun and paint it.

Avoid choosing paint from a paint chip:

The first thing one does while choosing a colour is to look at a paint chip and select. Do not choose the paint colour from a paint chip as they look great and fluorescent at the paint store. When these fluorescent colours are applied on the walls of your home, your home looks too overpowering. In order to avoid this, you can purchase a quart of the desired shade and paint a small portion of the wall with it in the presence of both natural and artificial light. And if you choose not to mess up your wall, you can always paint a cardboard with the paint and hang it on the wall.

Avoid choosing the colours in a store:

It is advisable that you do not buy any home decor items or paints at the store on the first visit. Take a sample of each and try it at your home. Ensure that you check the paints under the natural lights and under the lamps.

Avoid settling for a product based on the price difference:

Do not opt for a paint which you do not like only because it costs a little lesser than your favourite colour. Choose a colour which suits your personality and co-ordinates with your room decor and use it suitably even if you have to shell out extra money.

Avoid making your favourite colour the main colour:

In case you love red or bright greens, do not make them as your main room colour. Choose a subtle colour for your entire room which can accentuate the room features.

Consider the colour undertones:

It is very important that you consider all the colour shades before choosing your favourite colour. Various colours have different hues and are either too light or too dark. Ensure that you choose coordinating colours with the same intensity.

Don’t buy furniture before taking dimensions of your room. Doing so can make your room appear messy.

Avoid forcing a colour scheme:

Most of us make sure that we match the colours throughout the home including the decor, flooring and the walls. Do not indulge in matching all the colours and instead identify the major pieces and decide on how to match them.
