Lockdown Day 2: Create a reading nook in your room
Reading could probably be the best pastime during this lockdown period. If you like reading, you would like to recess to a comfortable corner in your room to indulge in your favourite pastime.
Be it for reading a magazine or a book or the daily news paper or for talking on the phone, drawing, and listening to music; a reading nook in a room is your place to retreat and curl up comfortably enjoying yourself. The bedroom is the most suitable room to find a quiet corner for the purpose.
You can create a comfortable nook in the room in the following steps.
- Find a suitable spot for your nook. It may be a corner, box, alcove, etc. Rearrange the bedroom furniture if needed. Keep in mind the fact that the corner has to be at a distant from disturbances such as television and radio so that you are not being distracted when you are at peace with yourself.
- Decide on what kind of seat you want in the corner. The nook is where you are the most comfortable; it is a private getaway for you in the house. It is your personal choice if you want a fluffy armchair or some pillows on the floor to curl up or a small chair or a beanbag or even a long seat where you can sprawl around.
- Keep things organised in the reading nook. Keep a table with a pen stand and a note pad as you never know when a moment of inspiration hits an avid reader. Place a night stand if you have space enough.
- Lighten up the corner. Rearrange your furniture so that natural light fall upon it. Keep a desk lamp or a table lamp. Make sure the light is not too bright and at the same time it is not too dim to make it difficult for you to read the text.
- Keep the corner secluded if you can so that it remains your private space. You can do that by putting a low dresser or or by hanging subtly colourful curtains to keep the place secluded from being intruded by everybody coming in to the room.
- Personalise and innovate the corner as you wish. Let your imagination fly high to give a personal touch to the nook. Remember that it is your corner and your space, so you have the freedom to imbue your attributes to the corner. You can hang your favourite poster or make a cut out of your favourite quote to make the corner feel warm and homely.
- Do not worry about not having enough space in your room for a table or even a chair to put in the nook. The reading nook is all about you and how you feel comfortable in your space. Some large sized pillows would also be plenty to create a quiet space for yourself.
- You can make your own stationery holder using a paper or plastic cup. Use it to keep a note pad to write down your reflections while reading. You can keep small portable sound boxes connected to a laptop or a PC and put on mild music.
Having a quiet reading nook would enhance your reading habits and make your living enriched by having an enhanced living experience. So go ahead, create a cozy corner and pick up your favourite book!
