Water is the force of life and an essential living commodity supplied by nature. No life can exist without water and humans tend to take water for granted. Considering that only a small fraction of water available of planet earth is fit for drinking, conserving water, especially in the summer season is our moral and social responsibility. Let us take some small steps that we can incorporate in our daily lives to save water.
Focus on Dripping Taps and Leaks: Water conservation can be initiated by fixing all tap leaks and hardware problems. Most of the times taps leaks can be fixed by changing a small washer which can go a long way in conserving water which would otherwise go to waste.
Use Low Flow Flush: Using a half flush setting every time one uses the bathroom must be used as it can offer optimal cleaning while saving water. If your flush does not have the water saving half-flush mode, it is time to get one installed.
Turn off the Tap while brushing: Brushing your teeth while keeping the tap turned on is a habit many people have. It can waste more than 12 liters of water for every person. Imagine how much water each household can conserve if they make it a rule to turn off the tap while brushing their teeth.
Install Water Efficient Shower: If you use an old overhead shower, it is time to install water efficient shower in its place. Water efficient showers are not very expensive; it also offers the right angles of water force to enable a good bath without wasting water.
Buy Water Efficient Washing Machine: Water can be conserved while using water efficient washing machines instead of washing clothes in the conventional way under a tap. While buying a washing machine makes sure you buy a star rated machine that offers an option for water saving mode.
Wash Car on the Lawn: Multitask by washing your car in the garden or green belt. This can make sure that the water is not wasted and goes to nourish the grass and plants instead.
Use Bucket for Car Washing: Avoid using a water pipe while washing your car and two-wheelers. Using a simple bucket of water, instead of a water hose pipe, can help you to save water.
Reduce Laundry Loads: Rather than running your washing machine twice a day, it makes a lot of sense to compile all the laundry and use the washing machine only once in two days or in a week to avoid wastage of water.
In the Kitchen: A good amount of household water is being used in the kitchen. So a little care while washing dishes or vegetables can make a lot of difference.
