Avadi situated about 25.8 km west of Chennai Central Railway station, Avadi is surrounded by major defense establishments. The locality is served by Avadi Railway Station of the Chennai Suburban Railway. A special EMU train from Arakkonam to Avadi has already been introduced. The locals of Avadi, Thirumullaivoyal, Ambattur, and Padi have to rely on bus MTC and other bus services to go to Tambaram and other neighboring areas in southern suburbs, as there is no direct train service. The locality is surrounded by Chennai-Tiruvallur High Road, New Military Road, and Avadi Main Road that further connecting to the Vellore-Chennai Road (NH 48) and Chennai Outer Ring Road. It has a Special Grade Municipal Corporation of Chennai Metropolitan Area in the state of Tamil Nadu. It has a 2.64 km long lake which lies right behind the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB)and Thirumullaivoyal. It also houses a number of IT/ITES & other service sector based firms. The Indian Air Force has a Mechanical Transport Training Institute Technical (MTTI) here for training its personnel on driving and repairing vehicles and also a base repair depot for repair and maintenance of its various equipment. Avadi, Hindu College, Pattabiram, Nemilichery Halt and Thiruninravur are nearby railway station for Avadi. However, Avadi is the nearest railway station which located at a distance of 1.6 km via Gandhi Street.
TSRTC, a state-owned bus service, connects Madhapur with other parts of the city. Madhapur is served by MMTS train service, the station is HiTech City Station, which is a kilometer away.
