5 Tips to organize Independence Day for Kids in your apartment community

Millions of lives, majority of whom are nameless and faceless, were sacrificed for this country, and on this day, we pay homage to these legends.Independence Day is an integral part of a kid’s life as they are the future of this country, and celebrating the day with kids reminds us of the sacrifices made for them.

Most kids look forward to this day for the special activities that are arranged in schools, housing societies and neighborhoods, so plan and conduct some events that would make this a memorable day for them. As always done, commemorating the day by hoisting the Tricolour flag in your community is a great way to start Independence Day.

Stage shows & cultural activities

Everyone loves stage shows, so set up a small stage in the neighborhood and organize events to fill the day. Conduct dance competitions and cultural activities, which are loved by kids and adults alike. Have the kids dress up like their favorite war heroes and conduct a fancy dress competition. Plan a party for both the kids and adults alike and have fun with role playing games.

Ignite the patriotic spark with patriotic movies of bollywood

The Indian Film Industry has a treasure trove of patriotic movies inspired from the events of 1947. Having a big screen show in the community of a famous movie can both be fun and educational. Movies like Gandhi, Rang De Basanti, Border etc will ignite the patriotic spark as well as have the kids dab in a little of history lesson.

Independence day competitions

Competitions are a great way to pass the time, and kids love contests of any kind. Organize a painting competition, Independence day contests, arts and crafts, essay writing on Independence heroes etc. will be fun. You can organize a history quiz contest or a drawing competition with a Free India theme and watch the excitement all around. It is an opportunity for the kids to highlight their skills as well as bond with everyone.

Important historical monuments

Every city in India has a mark of the Independence struggle and a monument dedicated to the yester years. Take a trip down memory lane by visiting these monuments with the kids. Teach them their significance and engage them with stories of struggles. If your apartment community is in cities like Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata, there are number of patriotic monument to visit with kids to delve into the depths of history.

You can also offer the kids souvenirs that they would cherish about the day. T-shirts and caps with the tricolour flag, Independence Day collectibles, story books on freedom fighters etc. are some way to pass on the rich history.

We enjoy the freedom we have now, and it is best celebrated with our kids. Let them know the price at which this independence came and how to cherish and grow it.
