An in-depth overview of Metro-BIA route
There was a proposal to build a 33 km high speed rail link from MG Road to Bangalore International Airport at a cost of Rs 57.67 billion but later the five year plan to build a high speed railway connecting Bangalore International Airport to the city is discarded to extend Namma Metro lines till BIAL.
The BMRCL said that extending metro lines will be cheaper when compared to cost required to have High Speed Rail Link to the airport. It is better to entend the metro line rather than implementing a whole new system in the same stretch.
BMRCL demanded that it would undertake a pre-feasibility study of extending metro line till BIA. For the proposed route, the organisation will make a Detailed Project Report soon.
Traffic experts also suggest that extending metro lines is better than HSRL to make easy commuting to and from the airport. For metro connectivity to the BIA, they have to lay 23.37 kilometres tracks from Nagawara.
In 2011 only the Government had directed to BMRCL to explore the possibility of linking the city and the airport via Byappanahalli, which is the largest multi-modal transportation hub for the city. The detailed report will be prepared after Rail India Techical and Economic Services finishes the pre-feasinility study which will get completed in six to nine months.
While if high speed rail link (HSRL) is implemented then from the central business district to the airport could take 29 minutes and metro will take anywhere between 44 to 55 minutes, if the number of stops are increased later. The estimated cost of the project will be around Rs 5,000 crores.
The city is also well connected with volvo buses ” Vayu Viajra” which connects the airport to the city through 11 routes. VayuVajra is a 24/7 service available for both departure and arrival passengers.
Though ther area is well connected by BMTC buses but people travelling in metro need not have to face traffic congestion, it will be faster than buses, metro will accomodate more passengers than BMTC buses and more over the metro fares will be lesser than volvo buses.
The property price is expected to appreciated in those areas and the real estate market is witnessing growth and will continue to grow.
Another new line is proposed from Hosakerehalli in south Bangalore to the ORR, connecting the grid (21.31 km). The proposed Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) on Magadi Road too will be connected to the Phase 1 grid at the Magadi Road toll gate through an 8.89-km new line.
