Bangalore is known as the IT capital of India and is known for the technology savvy busy residents of the city. Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) is one of the main electricity boards in Karnataka. BESCOM accepts online payment of electricity bills from Bangalore urban and rural, Tumkur and other four districts.

How to pay online electricity bill in Bangalore

There are two ways to pay electricity bill online – you can pay through online portals or you choose BESCOM ECS scheme to pay your power bill.

Payment through Online Portals

First step to make online electricity payment in Bangalore is that you need to visit BangaloreOne portal, through which you can pay the electricity bill. BESCOM also has tie up with ‘BillDesk’ for bill payment.

You can pay up the bill in various modes – ATM, Net Banking, mobile banking and tele banking. Let us see the online payment procedure through both these portals.

BangaloreOne

Visit the BangaloreOne portal and go to BESCOM services. Log in if you have had paid online bills earlier or and register yourself in the portal if you are a new user. You can visit the portal here – https://www.bangaloreone.gov.in/public/bescom-info.aspx

After logging in with your email ID, you can select the payment option in the portal. BangaloreOne accepts payment through credit card only and it does not allow you to make any partial payment to the bill amount.

BillDesk

BillDesk portal is another portal where you can pay your electricity bill. You can log in or register by visiting the following address – http://www.billdesk.com/Bescom.htm

Fill up the payment authorization form and select payee. The portal has many banking partners like State Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank, ING VYSYA Bank, DCB Bank, Deutsche Bank, etc.

BESCOM ECS scheme

If you opt for BESCOM ECS scheme, then you have to fill up a form first with the seal of your bank. Once you submit the form to BESCOM, the electricity bill amount for every month will be deducted from your bank account on the last day of bill payment.

There are no additional charges when you pay under ECS scheme. The only catch is that you need to ensure that you have enough money in your bank account every month to pay the bill.

Hidden electricity charges in BESCOM bills

It has been come in to light that there are sometimes hidden charges perceptible in BESCOM electricity bills which is usually not visible in the bills. It is found out that in the electricity bill of a certain apartment developed by a prominent developer in Hosur Road, Bangalore, the final amount of the bill did not tally with the break up amounts.

When an enquiry into the matter is carried out by the apartment association, it was found out that the discrepancy was due to the difference in load sanctioned and the load connected for which BESCOM charges penalty for excess load. In this particular instance, it was found out that BESCOM official calculated the load of fire pumps and booster pumps connected, which is exempted by the government for calculation of connected load. Subsequently, after the apartment association contacted the accounts department of BESCOM and the matter had been sorted out.

Hence, if you happen to be living in an apartment in Bangalore, make sure your apartment association approaches the accounts department of BESCOM, in case there is any discrepancy in the electricity bill amount.
