Celebrate Gandhi Jayanti in your apartment

Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday celebrated in India on 2nd October to commemorate the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. It is one of the three official declared National Holidays of India and is observed in all the Indian states and union territories. The United Nations General Assembly has announced that this day will be celebrated as International Day of Non-Violence.

Significance of this event:

This event also honours Gandhi’s life and contribution in India’s Independence. He was known for his principles of truth, honesty and non-violence. He was an intensely active personality and was actively a part of everything which involved the society and its welfare. Also he is widely recognised for Satyagraha movement, campaigns against untouchability, racial discrimination, expanding women’s rights and much more.

Organise a prayer session:

Gather everyone and organise a prayer session and sing few of Gandhiji’s favourite bhajans such as “Vaishna Jan To” and “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram”.

Install a Gandhi statue:

The apartment association can install a Gandhi statue within the apartment. Also the statue can be decorated with flowers and flower garlands.

Organise a speech:

A speech can be organised about Gandhiji’s life and his contribution in India’s Independence. Apart from speech, you can also hold a pick and speak competition with relevant topics.

There are various instances of Gandhiji’s life which can be casted in a play. Instances like salt Satyagraha, Gandihiji’s visit in Africa and others can be acted out.

Fancy dress competition:

A fancy dress competition can be held. Apart from this one can think of creative themes for a fancy dress competition. The association can offer prizes to the children and encourage them to take part in the event.

Organise cultural programs:

Although this is a national festival, there are various cultural programs which can be hosted by the association. Activities concerning the theme like singing, dancing, instrument playing, an exhibition and others can be held.
