Celebrating Children’s Day in India

14th of November as we all know is celebrated as Children’s Day in memory of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India. Although the United Nations’ (UN) Universal Children’s Day, is celebrated on November 20th each year to promote international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide; in India we prefer celebrating it on the 14th of November, to honor our very own Chacha Nehru, known for his love towards children.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has wrote a number of books like ‘The Discovery of India’, ‘Glimpses of World History’, his autobiography, ‘towards Freedom’. His letters to his daughter Indira Gandhi was also compiled into book. He believed that children are the future of the nation and he quoted “THE Future of India is Based on Today’s Child”. The trend of Children’s Day in India on November 14 was established only after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in the year 1963. India cherishes the children’s day with much fun filled activities, enjoyment and innovation at schools, residential areas that seems much as a festival and tribute to Nehru.
