Decorate your home with art
When we talk of home decor ideas, art rarely fits in to our plan. The general impression is that art is only for galleries and is never considered as an obvious choice for decorating a house. However, art appeals to aesthetic senses in a manner that little else does and it enhances the interior in a spectacular way.
Hence, while decorating your home, art can play a handy part to lift up the interiors. Here is how you can select art works in different rooms of your home.
Living room
Living room is the area where you want to showcase the prized possessions. Grand, magnificent art works can be kept in the living room; complementing the space and colour of the room. Original paintings and drawings would be best to keep there. If you are a proud owner of an inherited art work of bygone era or a collectible of rare distinction, living room is the space where you can keep it. Lithographs and woodcut prints are also suitable for decorating a wall of your living room.
There is a popular notion that it is not possible to get a quality art piece if you do not belong to the cream of the society. However, it is not so as art works differ in their price according to the artist and you can acquire art works at a reasonable rate in art fairs. It does not necessarily have to be a Rembrandt or a Dali, but something that you value and appreciate.
While displaying an art work in the living room, it is always advisable to go for a single large work framed in a contemporary frame at a space where that grabs everyone’s attention. You may also be inclined to hang multiple art frames in a suitable geometric order.
Dining room
Dining room shows off the ethics and values of a household as much as the living room. While selecting art work for the dining room, you should keep in mind that they have to be pleasantly colourful. Themes such as flowers, fruits, landscapes are the most suitable for dining room. Line drawings, abstract themes and fine art photographs are popular choices, too.
Since you will be placing it in dining room, you should hang it at a height which would allow people sitting on chairs while dining to have a pleasant view of the art work.
Bedroom
Bedroom is the most private space in the house. You should keep in your bedroom something that you would like to lay your eyes on when you wake up in the morning. As it would be the first thing you would look at and consequently would impact about how you feel about the coming day, you should be very careful while choosing the art.
It may vary as per your personal choice and taste and you may opt for modern or abstract or Renaissance era art; you may go for oil painting or water colour or a fine art photograph; you may like a portrait or a country sketch; it all depends upon your personality.
Usually a large art work or diptychs/triptychs are displayed over the bed. You can also hang up a favourite art work on the opposite wall of your bed. The kids’ bedroom can also be adorned with some cheerful painting or even better with something they have drawn themselves in the art classes.
