DIY: Tips to make a glass jar chandelier
Glass chandeliers look extremely attractive and elegant. Glass jar chandelier is an innovative idea and can be made with the regular small glass jars that is used in our households. Following are few steps to make eye catchy chandeliers with glass jars.
Materials needed
Get a metal cooling rack with a square grid or round shape. Arrange some twine, thin gauge wire, scissors and wire cutters. You can get same size or assorted size glass jars but make sure you clean them and remove the labels.
Handles of the jar
Attach wire handles with each glass jar. Make a loop and wrap it twice around the rim’s base. With the help of the wire cutter, snip of the wire leaving one inch on each side. Twist the ends tightly to secure the place and press the excess wire against the jar rim. Repeat the procedure on each jar.
Attach the handles
Cut the wire into equal number of glass jars. The wire should be six to seven inches long. On each jar place the wire section under the wrapped rim jar. Put another round of wire to secure in place. Attach another set of wire on the opposite side and wrap it around the newly added handle. Repeat to add the handles on each jar.
How to prepare the cooling rack?
Tie several length of twine randomly onto the grid. Then accordingly cut four same length twine. After cutting, gather the equal length twines and centered them above the rack’s top. Make a square knot to secure the place of the twines. Leave a gap of few inches between the knot and the neck. Place a hook or other hanging device under the knot. Tie each twine of different lengths to a wire handle and attach them with the cooling rack.
Candles and sand
Fill the little jars with ⅓ of clean sand and place a small tea light candle on the sand as the base. Press the candles firmly so that it does not move. Finally the glass jar chandelier is created, you can hang them in the balcony or any sturdy structure. Light the candles with long lighter or match stick. Decorate your room or balcony with the newly created chandelier!
