One thing that happens in the scorching summer is good and all are waiting for Holi! Yes, the festival of colours is approaching. But one thing that hits our mind every time when discussions about Holi happen, whether it is safe to play holi now or how to play Holi safely.

We all know that colours, pichkaris/water guns, and water balloons are used to increase the tempo of the joy. But if proper care is not taken, the festival can become extremely worse. To know how it can be avoided, wait here for some time and spend a few moments exploring the holi tips!

Safety Measures for Holi

While playing the safe holi, there are different things to be taken care of. Additionally, if you are a parent, then it is necessary to have some smart parenting moves to keep your child safe and at the same time let him/her enjoy the essence of the festival. Listen to our expert advice before making holi plans!

  • Use only natural or eco-friendly colours. Buy products made by reputed companies. Refrain others if they are not following the rules.
  • Wear full sleeves and full-length pants. If you want to match current trends, try investing in light-coloured or white clothing.
Apply a layer of coconut oil on the whole body before leaving our home for holi celebration. This will not leave any residue to stick to your skin or scalp.
  • Tie your hair tightly and also oil them before the celebration.
You can wear dental caps to protect your teeth from rigid coloured dyes.
  • Be alert and protect yourself from smashing colours on delicate organs like eyes, mouth, and ears. Use of goggles is recommended.
Keep yourself hydrated during the holi celebration with water, juice, and buttermilk.
  • After the celebration, make sure you get an immediate shower and remove all body colours thoroughly, especially in the areas like ears, neck, knees, etc.
  • Apply suitable moisturizer after a scrubby shower to keep the skin soft.

How to play Holi at Home?

Holi is a festival of togetherness, love, and enjoyment. One of the best ways to celebrate the core cause of the festival of colours is to play holi at home. If you are thinking how to play holi at home, then dare yourself this time. For a change, this time you call out your gang of friends and family at your home and experience the fun. Before that, you must be ready with a full-fledged plan. Here are we to help you out:

  • First, make your house ready for the Holi. As the festival itself is the festival of colours, how about a colourful and welcoming rangoli at the entrance? Hang colourful water balloons and streamers around the house, or even you can go wild to colour your entrance wall in vibrant colours.
  • If you have enough space, you can have your own bonfire. Arrange some wooden sticks, cow dung, dry leaves, and flower garlands to decorate it.
  • Invite foreign friends if you have, especially on this day, to show how we celebrate holi. Give them a treat of traditional sweets like gujiya, jalebis, rabadi, puranpoli, and mathari. Holi celebration is incomplete without some refreshing drinks like thandai and lassi. Don’t forget to add them up!
  • Try some organic and natural colours while playing holi. Buy eco-friendly colours or try at home using ingredients like turmeric, beetroot, or Heena.
  • Be prepared with a good music system and some happening tracks to enjoy the festive spirit.

Safety of Children

    • Make sure kids do not smear the colors in the eyes or ingest the same.
    • Ensure your kids are using natural colors or skin-friendly and herbal colors.
    • If the floor is damp or wet, prevent your kids from running or jumping on wet floors, so that your kids don’t slip and injure.
    • If your kids have acne, wash their face clean and consult your doctor.
    • Children love celebrating the festival of Holi and playing with Holi colors or water. Do not allow your kids to waste water unnecessarily.
    • Discourage your children to play Holi with eggs, mud or gutter water. Never turn a blind eye to such unclean ways of celebration.
    • Teach your children to respect other’s independence during Holi. Do not let your neighbors rude to you or your kids on this Holi.

Safety of Women

  • Don’t walk alone on the streets on the Holi day. You’ll be a sure target for miscreants.
  • Play Holi only with a group of close friends and relatives as against strangers.
  • Avoid over indulgence in bhang, drinks or food so that you don’t repent later.
  • Do not bump into the frenzied group of mob if you take to streets. Better to stay at a safe distance.
  • For taking out color from skin use a mild moisturizing soap and lukewarm water. Refrain from using removers, kerosene, petrol or strong soaps to remove it. These can also cause skin irritation.
  • If you have acne, wash your face clean with Cetaphil cleanser and apply an antibiotic gel like Clindamycin gel.
  • Try to save yourself off from all possible attacks on the face and hair.
  • Try to keep your lips and eye-lids closed, while being smeared with colors
  • People take advantage of women on the pretext of coloring them. One should play Holi only with close friends and family. Be with a group that doesn’t take advantage of you.
  • Remember you also have police on your side and if any untoward revelers misbehave, you can make your complaint.
  • Do not drive if you are high on alcohol or bhang.
  • To stay safe in crowds leave the expensive jewellery at home as it can only make you more vulnerable to crime.
  • Pre-plan the meeting place with your friends and family before you even reach the location.
  • If you plan to eat at the venue, it’s important to consider food hygiene.
  • Leave a bit early so that you can beat the crowd rushing to leave the venue after the concert.

Safety of Environment-Celebrate Eco Friendly Holi

  • Use of natural colors is the best way to save water as they do not require much water to remove the color.
  • Celebrating an Eco-Friendly Holi not only saves Nature but also saves you from Harmful Effects of Chemical Colors.
  • Avoid Using Plastic Bags and Balloons on Holi. People throw plastic bags and balloons filled with colored water on Holi. The remains of these plastics create environmental pollution.
  • Take a bath much later after the entire Holi celebration is over. Taking frequent bath is waste of water and washing the face again and again, will ruin your skin.
  • To save water on Holi, we should use a limited amount of water on Holi.
  • It is the duty and responsibility of one and all to celebrate an eco-friendly Holi and save Nature.

Holi Tricks to Save your Vehicle!

  • If not in use, cover your vehicle on the day to keep it stain-free.
Apply wax polish on painted parts of the vehicle.
  • Make use of old curtains or heavy materials to cover the interiors of your vehicle.
  • Use car shampoo instead of detergent to clean the stains.

Tips for Washing off the colours

  • If you have applied a layer of oil before the celebration, it is easy to remove the colours. Use gentle soaps and shampoos.
  • Use cold water to wash away the colours as hot water may stain your skin more.
  • Don’t take frequent baths if you have stains even after the wash. Let them fade naturally.
  • You can also try curd and gram flour paste to remove the stains and protect your skin.
