Choosing the right CCTV deviceCCTV security system is essential for residential & commercial buildings to prevent crime and thefts. Nowadays CCTVs are available at affordable rates and the camera varies depending on your needs and recording environment. CCTV or Closed Circuit Television is a security camera fixed to one monitoring system.

Factors to consider before choosing a CCTV

Normally there are six things to be noted before selecting a CCTV. They are as follows:-

Camera Selection

For a Camera selection, there are 4 things to be kept in mind. They are

Location – Whether the camera is used for indoor or outdoor purpose is very important to consider before selecting a camera. If the camera is used for outdoor purpose then it is very important to ensure that the camera is appropriate for the environmental conditions that are likely to be encountered such as rain, snow, sun-glare, low light etc.
Light levels – For an effective security system it is very important to choose the right camera based on the amount of available light.
Colors – The Black and White or Day Night Cameras is also to be considered before selecting a camera. At lower light a Black and White cameras provide better image quality than color ones and are usually cheaper than color ones.
Wired or Wireless Camera – Wired or Wireless CCTV cameras are also to be considered while selecting a camera. A wireless camera is easier to install when compared to wire one.

Factors to consider while choosing CCTV for your homeRecording Options: While selecting CCTV camera it is very important to consider the recording options in the camera. The recording options in camera can be categorized into three; namely Domestic VCR, Domestic DVD Recorder and Standalone Digital Video Recorders. The simple and low cost recording options that can provide good quality footage record comes in Domestic VCR. If you need higher quality digital recording, increased storage capacity and improved search and retrieval capability then it Domestic DVD recorder can be used. If you are looking for Storage Capacity and consistent quality recording then Standalone Digital Video Recorders can be used.

Detection: PIR Movement Detectors and Video Motion Detection are the two main event-led recorders, capturing relevant footages. In case of external use, PIR movement detection is preferable rather than video motion detection.

Time and Date Stamping: The time and date feature in CCTV will help to identify the event occurred and recorded, particularly if the footage is to be used for evidentiary purposes.

Cable and Connectors: The cable and connectors in security camera can be connected in a variety of ways. Camera can site up to 250m away from the monitor or recording device, if it is connected to co-axial cable with a local power supply.

Camera Protection: The camera should be protected from vandals if they are used for collecting evidence or targeted for vandal acts.
