How to organize a Holi party in your apartment

The onset of spring brings the colorful festival of Holi. Just as colorful flowers begin to blossom in the spring, Holi symbolizes fun and frolic. Holi is best celebrated with friends, family, neighbors and all loved ones in togetherness. With Holi around the corner, here are some tips that would allow you to plan for the perfect Holi party in your apartment.

Shortlist the Location: The first step towards organizing a successful Holi party in your apartment complex is to shortlist the location of the party. Depending on the number on invitees for your party, you can choose the society compound, backyard or terrace to entertain your guests. If you are planning to invite all society members the society compound can be the perfect place suitable for all concerned. You can also choose the neighboring garden or a green belt in the society compound as an ideal place for Holi celebrations that do not disturb those who do not wish to indulge in such celebrations.

Take Necessary Permission: Once you have shortlisted the venue for your Holi party, make sure to get all necessary approvals from the concerned authority in your society. Make sure that you have no objection certificate duly signed by the society secretary for the Holi celebrations including use of water, colors and music for the limited period of time. Make sure you have paid the designated fee to the society for using the common area as per your society constitution.

Dance and Music: Holi is synonymous with dance, music, festivity and color. Make sure you have all the arrangements in place for dance and music indulgence. You can hire a professional DJ to assist you in taking care of all music and dance requirements. The invitees can pool up some money to pay for the DJ, making sure the whole celebration is professionally managed. Make sure that there is an adequate arrangement for power for music and speakers including power backup in case of a power failure.

Food and Drinks: Holi festivities offer everyone a chance to indulge in festive gourmet delicacies. Make sure there is enough arrangement for traditional sweets. The use of Thandai drink made with milk, almonds and other refreshing herbs and spices is widely prevalent. It is essential to see that there are enough disposable glasses and plates and arrangement of trash cans for the same.

Use Organic Colors: Use of chemical based colors can be harmful for the skin. Make sure your Holi invites stresses the point that all members must bring only organic or natural colors. Apart from being soft on the skin, organic colors are easy to wash and can be applied to children and senior citizens without any fear of reactions or long standing stains on the skin.

Go Eco Friendly: A lot of water gets wasted during Holi and the best way to celebrate the festival underlining a social message is to use water free eco friendly Holi. Indulge in a dry colour play without compromising the fun and frolic but saving precious water.

Focus on Safety and Security Arrangements

If you are inviting people from outside your society to the Holi party, make sure there are enough security arrangements in place. Special security arrangement must be made for women. The society security guards can be used to overlook the festivities and given a free hand in throwing out anyone found in creating unnecessary arguments or troubles.

Don’t Forget The Clean up Act

Cleaning up post the festivities are as important as making initial arrangements. Make sure that all trash is neatly piled up in the trash bins and any leftover food and sweets are disposed or distributed to the needy. Any colours left around the compound must be preserved for future use rather than throwing them away.

Holi in 2014 is celebrated on March 17. Wish you all a Happy and safe Holi.
