The problem of parking has become more difficult and the number of cars is increasing day by day. During the holiday season, parking lots can turn into war zones. As per building plans or building laws, the builders are required to leave certain space for purpose of playground, garden, etc. However, there are no definite guidelines for allowing parking space. It is regrettable that in our hurried up lifestyles, people often ignores parking lot etiquette. In an apartment complex or housing society, not everyone may have knowledge of the rules, regulations, and general niceties that come with sharing a massive parking lot. Following are some useful tips to follow when parking at an apartment community that can make storing your vehicle easier for you and the residents around you.

The most frequent breach of parking lot etiquette is residents parking in an area that is not a parking space or parking in spot assigned to other residents or neighbors. Apartment Parking Lot Etiquette enables the access of vehicle easier for you and the residents around you. Following are some useful Parking Lot Etiquette.

  • Many large parking lots may have posted speed limits. These are for the safety of pedestrians and other drivers, please note and obey them.
  • Using turn signals gives other drivers an idea what your intentions are, use them in a timely manner to indicate what you are doing.
  • Keep the children under control while walking through parking lots. This will help protect them from inattentive drivers, and make the parking lot safer for everyone.
  • One thing to always be aware of is if a community has assigned parking, pay attention and park in your own spot or general shared spaces.
  • Parking your car at an angle and taking up more than one spot will do you more harm than good.
  • Each apartment communities have their own association and rules and regulations. Ensure you are aware of parking lot rules in your apartment community.
  • In case of any accident such as you bump another car while opening your car door or some other accident, be a responsible resident and leave your information on a piece of paper. It is better to let them know this way than to have them find out it was you from another witness.
  • The other residents’ vehicles are their own private property. Be respectful of this and try not to lean, sit on or damage them.
  • Pedestrian crosswalks are common near the main entrances and exits for the safety of pedestrians or people returning to their cars. Please note and obey them.

  • Remember that there are often families with kids that live in apartments too. If you are going to fast, you might cause a really bad accident or worse.
  • Report suspicious looking and loitering people, if seen in apartment premises or parking lot.
