Pay Your Property Tax or Lose Your Property

BBMP Bangalore will serve notice to Bangalore property owners who haven’t paid the tax from the last two years. Failing to pay property tax would end in attaching the properties of the defaulters. The movable articles too would be attached with attachment of properties. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to act tough with the defaulting property owners. The property tax defaulters for the year 2010-11 will be levied two per cent of penalty for every month starting from December 1, 2010.

No Rent for Property Tax Defaulters

Fed up with the poor response to the property tax payment, BBMP Bangalore has decided to act tough. BBMP has decided to attach properties and movable articles too from property tax defaulters of two or more years. If the property is rented, BBMP will directly collect rent of property from the tenants. This means, if a property owner defaults his property tax for 2008-09 and 2009-10, the rent paid by their tenant will go directly to BBMP.

Prosecuted under the KMC Act

The Property owners who haven’t paid the tax from the last two years (2008-09 and 2009-10) will be served notices to adhere to the payments and if they still don’t pay the tax, BBMP will attach properties and movable articles of defaulters. The property owners who in spite of all this do not end up paying property taxes will be prosecuted under the KMC Act. Taxation Rule 27 of the Karnataka Municipalities Act empowers the BBMP to attach properties of property tax defaulters.

Attaching properties and articles of defaulters is only for tax defaulters for years 2008-09 and 2009-10. The 2010-11 defaulters will be levied two per cent of penalty for every month up to March 2011.
