Recycling of Waste For Effective Waste Management

Whether it’s our daily routine at home or a party, waste assembly is unavoidable. Thus it is one’s prime responsibility to participate in its management. Awareness Programs and teamwork of people are prerequisite in this case. But the question arises here how this waste can be managed? You must have certainly heard about the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). Let’s take a look at them:

Reduce unwanted and assembly of waste.

The place where you live must be clean and hygienic thus it is essential to lessen the waste production. Buy food in large quantities or in bulk and consider giving preference to those that use less packaging.

Reuse any article that can be used or donate it.

It is because new is often not the best option. Find uses for things you discard for example buy re-usable nappies and carry bags, re-chargeable batteries or even re-useable items such as jam jars. You can use towels, rags, and sponges for most cleaning. Use cloth napkins, and not forgetting to mention say “no to plastic bags”.

Recycle the remains and dispose of whatever unnecessary.

For this purpose you can also place separate containers for recyclable trash throughout the house. Many items like aluminum and steel cans, clean aluminum food packaging, newspapers, magazines etc can also be recycled. All you have to do is contact nearby recycling centers and know the list of items they accept. Wet food waste can be converted into manure by digging a pit in your backyard.

Here are some ways which can help you to manage your waste.

    • It is a very common tendency of people to collect litter in one bin which will surely cause health problems. Thus Separation of wet and dry waste is the first step. Place variety of bins for different type of waste. Always place two bins; one in which dry waste like papers, packets, cartons etc can be dumped and the other on which left over food, left over tea and coffee waste, peels of vegetables or fruits etc can be dumped.
  • Some waste can be even used for decoration purpose take for example cards of holi, birthdays, new year or any festival can be used in making Wreath and can be hung on door or any other place.
  • One can also use old CDs for Christmas tree ornamentsand using wine bottles for candle holders.

  • For hazardous material disposal, resist the temptation to bury them in amongst your regular household waste.
  • A food waste disposer commonly known as a garbage disposal unit can be used in the kitchen which works unnoticed under-the-sink to crush meat bones, vegetable matter or other foods that go down the drain
  • It is seen that segregation is a very simple, less time consuming process yet sometimes it fails at residential sources. The prime reason behind it is lack of awareness or many times ignorance. Solution to this problem can be awareness programs held by members of apartments or by government. Everybody should have a feeling to volunteer for such kind of programs and actively participate in it. And finally the working maids and garbage collectors of apartments should be educated with the importance of Segregation.
