Registration of voter ID card for Bangalore residents

Karnataka state assembly elections are drawing close and are slotted to be held in April/May, 2013. As a citizen of democratic India, you should participate in choosing your representatives. All the residents of Bangalore are requested by the authority to get their names enrolled for the upcoming elections. If you are a Bangalorean, here are some key guidelines to know how to go about enrolling your name.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has called upon residents of Bangalore to go through the revised draft Voters’ list published for all the 28 Assembly Constituencies in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits.  You can file claims and objections to the names in the list till December 4th, 2012. The complaints may be on the following grounds:

(i) To enroll first time Voters.
(ii) To enroll eligible voters who have shifted recently or those whose names are not in the rolls.
(iii) To enable corrections, if any, in the electoral rolls.

Documents required for enrollment:

(1) For new enrollments of Voter ID Cards:

a. Form ‘6’ duly filled up in all manners.
b. Two copies of colour photo (Passport size)
c. Age Proof – mark sheet or birth certificate or pass port or driving licence or marriage certificates copy
d. Address Proof of Present Address (Any one) – gas connection in the name of self or parents or ration card or electricity bill copy or pan card or bank pass book or ID card issued by the Post Office.
e. If resident is a tenant – Lease/Tenancy Agreement copy.

(2) For correction in Existing Voter Cards:

a. Form ‘8’ duly filled up in all manners.
b. Colour Photo (Passport size) – two copies.
c. Voter ID Card – photocopy of existing card.
d. For correction in age – age proof documents
e. For correction in address – relevant documents required mentioned as above for present address.

For any inclusion, correction or deletion purpose, you need to contact the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka. Following are the important forms for various purposes:

Form 6: Application for inclusion of name in electoral roll
Form 6A: Application for inclusion of name for overseas electors/NRI
Form 8: Application for correction of particulars entered in electoral roll
Form 8A: Application for transposition of entry in electoral roll
Form 7: Application for objecting inclusion or seeking deletion of name in

In case of students eligible to cast their votes, who happen to stay in hostels/messes, they need to attach a declaration along with Form 6, which will be countersigned by the principal of the academic institution they are pursuing their course from.

In case of students or residents who will be 18 years as on the date of 01-01-2013, may also apply now for getting the Voter Card after filling the Form ‘6’ with age proof and address proof documents.

If you happen to be tenant or a student living as a tenant in an individual house/apartment, you are eligible for getting yourself enrolled in the voters list.

If you happen to be a working professional or a student living in a P.G, then you need to attach a declaration along with Form 6 countersigned by a Gazetted Officer or the Police personal of the locality.

The registered voters’ names will be displayed at the respective ward offices. If you want to check it out online then visit the following site:

The details of voter ID card enrollments will also be available with the respective Assistant Revenue Officers (ARO) of BBMP and Ward Offices in different localities.

Submit the filled forms before 4th December, 2012. After the due processing done by the chief electorate office, the final publication of the electorate will be published on 16th January, 2013.
