State government sanctions 2.5 FSI for PMPML bus depots
The proposal made by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), for an additional 1.5 Floor Space Index(FSI), has been approved by the Maharashtra state government. Instead of the usual 1 FSI, the authority would now be provided with a total of 2.5 FSI, for construction of its bus depots and terminals. The drafting of a new development plan, which mentions in detail about the additional FSI, is under process.
Allotment of additional FSI for construction on plots that were provided for development of PMPML bus depots and terminals, was discussed by the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad civic bodies. It was proposed that two floors would be developed and used for parking and other PMPML purposes. Commercial spaces would be planned on the remaining floors. During a meeting held last week between the two civic bodies, a proposal of allocation of 2% budgetary amount for the utility in the budgets of both civic bodies, was discussed.
The state government responded positively to the decision of allotment, which mentioned that about Rs.40 crore would be provided by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, and the state government of Pune would have to contribute an amount of Rs.72 crore.
PMPML has been facing high loses over the years and earlier this year, deputy chief minister, Mr. Ajit Pawar had asked PMPML to increase its revenue through advertisements. This move is believed to help build a better infrastructure for the transport utility. It would also assist in raising funds, through commercial use and also help the cash-strapped Pune MPML to move out of its financial crisis.
Apart from the allotment of FSI, the meeting also decided to bring up the metro project issue for discussion, in the state cabinet. Development control rules (DCR) of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority’s (SRA) and service rules for recruitment were also discussed during the meeting.
