Transfer of government land for metro made easier
With the approval provided by the central government for the proposal put forward to expedite transfer of government land for accelerated execution of metro projects across the country, it is hoped that the ongoing and future metro rail projects would be completed within the stipulated time period, without incurring any extra costs.
According to the proposal, state or the concerned civic body can now get approval for getting government land without much hassle, for the ongoing or future metro projects in the state. Earlier the same involved a number of technical processes and official clearances, which had often lead to the delay of launching metro projects across the country.
Features of Pune Metro Station
Initially, it was planned that few sections of the metro would be constructed underground and the rest, elevated. However, the plan was later dropped, taking into consideration the increased traffic on the roads. Some roads through which the proposed lines would pass were found to be too narrow to even adjust the pillars of elevated routes. Hence, it was decided by the concerned authority that all the routes would be constructed underground. Nevertheless, in April 2012, the Pune Metro Corporation announced that the construction would follow the norms laid down in the DMRC reports, according to which most of the stations should be built on an elevated platform and only some should be constructed underground.
As per figures published by PMC, approximately 18 hectares of land is required for the construction of about 15 elevated stations and a depot in Kothrud. While about 14 hectare of the required land belongs to the government and the PMC, almost 4 hectares is owned by private owners.
According to the plan developed by PMC, the metro project would consist of 2 phases. Phase I would consist of Line 1 and Line 2, which runs from Chinchwad to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi, respectively. Phase II would include Line 3 and Line 4 routes, which would be from Deccan Gymkhana to Bund Garden and from ASI to Hinjawadi, respectively. Line 1 would cover an area of about 16 km and Line 2, about 15km. Line 3 and line 4 would cover a distance of 11km and 18 km respectively.
As part of future expansion, the following extensions and routes have been proposed :
1. Agriculture college to Warje via JM road and Karve road (9km).
2. Race Course to Hadapsar.
3. Bund Garden toVishrantwadi.
4. Link from Bhosari to Moshi to link with Moshi-Chakan-new Pune international airport metro line.
